What is Personal Information and why do we collect it?

Personal Information (PI) is information or an opinion that identifies an individual. Typical examples of PI we collect include names, ranks, positions, titles, organisations, official/work addresses, official/work emails, official/work phone and facsimile numbers. Above all we do not seek, ask for, or collect, and we take all possible and practical steps to avoid collecting, any PI relating to private residential addresses, private telephone and facsimile numbers and private email addresses, including private social media identifiers, handles and addresses.

As a result, your PI can be obtained in several ways, from conversations, meetings, and correspondence including telephone, facsimile and email; via our website (including from cookies); from your organisation’s own website; the media, news and publications; from other publicly available sources and from third parties.

Sensitive Information

Sensitive Information (SI) is defined in the Privacy Act to include information or opinion about such things as an individual’s racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, membership of a political association, religious or philosophical beliefs, membership of a trade union or other professional body, criminal record and health, genetic and biometric information.

We do not seek, ask for, or collect SI, and take all possible and practical steps to avoid collecting any PI that could also be regarded as Sensitive Information.

Defcon Technologies Group will not charge any fee for your access request but may charge an administrative fee for providing you with a copy of your Personal Information.

In order to protect your PI we may require identification from you before releasing the requested information.

It is important to us that your PI is up to date. As a result, we will take reasonable steps to make sure that your PI is accurate, complete and up-to-date.
